SURE FOOTED

SEA BUCKTHORN AND ORANGE ZEST GOSE

Say hello to Sure Footed Sea Buckthorn and Orange Zest Gose, brewed to celebrate International Women’s Day 2022. Cabin’s female staff picked the style, ingredients and name and then came together to turn raw ingredients to beer on brew day – and they did good!

The beer is sour and tangy with notes of coriander, orange, sea salt, pink grapefruit and honey. The choice of main ingredient is very deliberate. Sea buckthorn is incredibly hardy, withstanding almost anything nature can throw at it, all the while producing the most amazing fruit. Sure footed? It sure is, just like the women in this industry who are working harder than anyone else – showing tenacity and perseverance every day - to crush stereotypes about what the craft beer industry looks like.

AMAAAAAZING

LEMON MERINGUE PIE ALE

When Calgary brewer Paul Heslop won Yeast Wrangler of the Year at the Cowtown Yeast Wranglers home brew club's annual competition, the first prize was to brew a beer with Cabin. Hooray!

We’ve known Paul for many years and know that he has an insanely good palate for delicious beer. When he suggested making a lemon meringue pie ale, we couldn’t say no - his home brewed version was simply outstanding. When you drink this 5.2% beer you’ll swear you're biting into a slice of pie. It’s tart, sweet and lemony with a long-lingering taste of freshly baked pie crust. In Paul’s own immortal words (said with a British accent of course...) it’s amaaaaazing!

#1 NEIGHBOUR

PAPAYA KETTLE SOUR

Hi-diddly-ho frienderinos! There is nothing better than great neighbours, right?

In celebration of YYC Neighbour Day 2021, Cabin Brewing Company and Born Colorado Brewing collaborated on TWO special Neighbour Day beers that are designed to be mixed and matched with each other.

We both started with a summer-crushing kettle sour base, sprinkled a little lactose for sweetness, then bombarded it with fruit. Born Colorado’s version has blood orange and grapefruit, while Cabin’s version has boatloads of papaya. On their own they are delicious – when blended and drank as a pair, they are next-level awesome!

MISHTI

TAMARIND & MANGO SOUR

Where old meets new and east meets west, beer meets food and the result is the best!

Is there a more exciting restaurant in all of Calgary than Calcutta Cricket Club? Those bright, bold flavours, modern Kolkata classics done in tasteful elegance - a night out here is like a night in heaven.

To help celebrate their birthday, we crafted a beer to match their unique and exciting flavours. That beer is Mishti, a mango and tamarind sour that’s tart and lively and all sorts of amazing. The name is a Bengali word for sweet - but use it as a term of celebration (mishtiiiii!) and you’ll fit right in.

Get yourself a kati roll in one hand and a beer in the other. Mishtiiii!

LOVE SHACK

HAZY PASSIONFRUIT IPA

A year ago we traded BFF necklaces with our good friends at Eighty Eight Brewing and set our sights on a glorious collaboration.

Alas, 2020 had other plans…. But we weren’t going to let another year go by without celebrating our mutual love – for each other, and for tasty beer. Behold, our lovechild – Love Shack Hazy Passionfruit IPA!

The talented brew teams at Cabin and ‘88 built the recipe for Love Shack together, then each brewed their own version. While it’s the same recipe and same ingredients, each beer is slightly different.

We started with a wonderfully full-bodied and super soft malt bill, blended a passionfruit addition as big as a whale and then dry-hopped the living bejeebus out of it with all the Galaxy, Vic Secret, Cryo Mosaic and Cryo Sabro hops we could lay our hands on.

Think of Love Shack as tropical aromatherapy, with a citrus chaser, mixed with a delightfully tart little twist of passionfruit. Juicy? Yes. Tasty? HECK YES!

VINES & BINES

CANADIAN SPARKLING ALE

A collaboration with Alberta's first urban winery - City & Country Winery and Tasting Bar! From the vines come the grapes, from the bines the hops. Vines & Bines is a true Canadian product. It is a clear, highly effervescent Kolsch-style ale made with Alberta barley and Sauvignon Blanc grape juice and skins from the Niagara-on-the-Lake wine region in Ontario. It finishes dry and crisp with luscious stonefruit notes and hints of lychee and lime. It is dry-hopped with the New Zealand hop varietal Nelson Sauvin, known for its aromatic qualities akin to Sauvignon Blanc wine. It comes in a can, but you may want to enjoy it from a champagne flute – go ahead, we won’t judge…

87 STEPS

TART NEIPA WITH PINEAPPLE & GUAVA

87 Steps is a luscious, full-bodied NEIPA that is laden with guava and pineapple, with a nice tart finish that keeps all that tropical craziness in check. This beer (brewed for YYC Neighbour Day 2020) is made to be shared; with the couple over the fence you’ve only said hello to; with the new family that just moved in; with your friends a few blocks over who are now like family. 87 Steps is the distance between Born Colorado Brewing and Cabin, in Calgary’s Manchester brewing area. We are neighbours. We are friends. We share a love of community and making great beer.

BY THE NUMBERS

WEST COAST IPA

When you brew a beer with Bale Breaker, you’d better bet the hops are going to shine! Surrounded by hop fields in the heart of Washington’s Yakima Valley, Bale Breaker is at ground zero for hop growing. They visited recently and brought two new experimental and very exciting hop varieties to the party, HBC692 and HBC630. We introduced these new beauties to some of our old friends –Amarillo, Comet, Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic – to create an IPA that is simply exploding with citrus, tropical fruit and stone fruit flavours and aromas – peach and tangerine especially. This beer is an absolute beauty. One sniff and you’ll be a fan for life.
